Building a real-time stock price system for 1,000+ concurrent users, but failing to mention that requirement upfront to AI — 80% into the project, the chosen tech stack could not handle the load
This is a real lesson from building a Trading system with AI — if the full requirements had been given to AI from the start, there would have been no need to tear things apart at the 80% mark.
When AI does not get the full picture, the resulting system becomes the starting point of a major migration
GodseyeDB is an AI Trading Agent that pulls real-time stock prices from 4 markets simultaneously — Crypto (Binance), US Stock, Forex (TwelveData), and Thai SET. All data is analyzed by AI to calculate a GodsEye Score from 1-100 across 5 dimensions, with alerts sent via LINE, Telegram, Discord, and a Web Dashboard.
The goal was to support over 1,000 concurrent users viewing stock prices — but that requirement was never communicated to AI at the start of the project.
Sounds great on paper — but the problem was that AI was never told the system would grow this large.
The root cause was "incomplete context" — at the start of the project, AI was only told "build a stock price viewer" without mentioning the need to pull from 4 markets simultaneously, calculate multiple indicators, or handle 1,000+ concurrent users.
AI assumed the project was small-scale, so it chose Node.js for everything — Gateway, Engine, Dashboard, all indicator calculations. It looked fine initially. About 80% into development, problems started appearing.

The problem was not bad code — Node.js was simply not designed for heavy computation. Node.js excels at I/O (handling requests, WebSocket) but struggles with number-crunching at scale. No NumPy, no Pandas — everything had to be written as manual for loops.
Giving AI incomplete context = AI picks the wrong tools. 80% into the project, the system could not handle the load — like asking AI to build a house but forgetting to mention it needs to be earthquake-proof.
While struggling with performance, an article about new Python tools appeared by chance — uv (a package manager written in Rust, 100x faster than pip) and Ruff (a linter 160x faster than ESLint).
That article was fed to AI for analysis — with the question: "Would switching computation from Node.js to Python be a better choice?"
The analysis that came back painted a clear picture:

The standout option was Option C — Hybrid Architecture. No need to throw away Node.js entirely. No starting from scratch. Just let each language do what it does best.
Hybrid Architecture = no need to pick sides. Let Node.js handle what it excels at (I/O, WebSocket). Let Python handle what it excels at (compute, analytics). Nothing gets thrown away, and rollback is always possible.
The principle is simple: "Right Tool for the Right Job" — message handling goes to Node.js, heavy computation goes to Python. No forcing a single tool to do everything.
AI estimated that a team of 3-5 people would need 8-12 weeks — covering foundation, data migration, engine rebuild, integration testing, and deployment.
But AI also noted: "All of this can be done in roughly 2 hours with AI assistance."
Once actual planning began — everything was completed in 30 minutes. Not just coding, but analysis, planning, writing, testing, deploying, and bug fixing — all in a single session.

Each layer uses the best tool in its category — most are Rust-based tools (Python tools with Rust internals, making them 10-100x faster than standard alternatives). No change in coding style needed, just swap the library.

The most important lesson is not about tech — it is about "how to give instructions to AI." Providing complete context from the start makes everything significantly easier.

There is no need to commit to a single language for everything — let each language handle what it does best. Existing code stays intact, rollback is possible, and risk stays low.
Polars, DuckDB, Ruff, uv — all 10-100x faster. Just swapping the library is like putting new tires on a car — same vehicle, dramatically faster.
The condition: full context must be provided. Not just "make it faster" — the complete set of problems, goals, and constraints must be laid out for AI to plan correctly.
Without stumbling upon that uv + Ruff article, the slow system would have stayed as-is. That accidental discovery led to a system 280x faster. Sometimes the detour turns out to be the shortcut.
It is not about the tech stack — it is about how to give AI instructions. Complete context = correct results from the start.

Slightly — there are 2 runtimes to manage instead of 1. But each part becomes simpler. The Node.js Gateway just routes requests without any computation. The Python Engine only handles computation without messaging. Debugging is actually easier because responsibilities are clearly separated.
Polars is a DataFrame library like Pandas, but written in Rust, making it 71x faster. The syntax is 80% similar — the main difference is that Polars uses lazy evaluation (queue operations first, execute all at once, much faster for large datasets). The learning curve is minimal. Anyone familiar with Pandas can adapt within 1-2 days.
Because Node.js still outperforms Python for I/O + real-time WebSocket tasks — switching entirely would sacrifice that strength. Hybrid is better because it gets the best of both worlds. Existing code stays intact, risk is low, and rollback is straightforward.
Not at all — Hybrid is suited for projects with mixed workload types (heavy I/O + heavy computation). For small projects, a single language is simpler. First assess where the bottleneck is. If I/O is the problem, Node.js or Go fits well. If computation is the problem, Python fits better.
uv is rapidly becoming the default package manager in the Python community — 100x faster than pip, supports everything pip does in a single tool. Major frameworks like FastAPI and Django already recommend uv in their docs. It is safe to start using now, with the option to fall back to pip at any time if issues arise.
